The Weeping Waters

Between the Wickend Wode and the monstrous mountain range surrounding the Valley of the Unseen lay the Weeping Waters. This large lake carries on it the sorrows of a thousand drowned souls, who’s cries have been swept up on the winds and circle the shore’s edges. Much like the corrupted trees of the Wickend Wode, these waters too were cursed by the twisted Druidic magic of the Trolls of Gor’reg when they sealed the valley thousands of years ago, making them nearly impossible to cross. As such, when any creature no longer touches the ground in the waters, they become swept up in endless currents, unable to find the shore again no matter how far they swim. Eventually, they run out of energy, their screams and pleas joining the breeze.

To most, the Weeping Waters are an impassable barrier to the world beyond, but to the quiet few, there are ways to cross without being lost to the sweeping currants and immeasurable depths. Twisted effects only occur when a creature no longer touches the floor within the waters, the second this connection is broken, so too is their connection to stable reality. Currents wrap any such creature up and sweep them out into an imperceivable whirlpool, constantly pulling them back to the center. Even the strongest swimmers cannot contest this pull, leaving most to run out of energy and drown, confused and alone. However, not all is lost if you were to enter the waters and be swept into its cruel current. If you know to fight against all logical thought and swim down into the depths, if you are able to reach the bottom, then your connection to stable reality is restored and the currents leave you be. It is possible then to pull yourself along the lake's floor and back to the safety of the shore, so long as you can hold your breath long enough.
