Djard the Wandering Merchant

Barnaby D’Arcy

Djard, a wandering merchant still green behind the ears, walked through the old pirate town of Riggen. Though one could say he stumbled through the streets, bumping into countless people who milled about the space. He could not help it, however hard he tried to look professional, the revelry surrounding brought back memories of childhood; of festivals and music and booze-fueled fights. The celebration in question was of the First Pirate Landing, whence the first Pirates made a deal with the Divine of Greed. A momentous occasion. The rich preened and cooed at each other passive-aggressively from across the street, speaking of their latest haul of valuable goods or of the heavy chests of hold kept in large vaults. The poor, too, had the spirit of competition flowing through them. They cheered for their favourite hero in the endless plays set on stages of driftwood, fished for exotic mechanical fish in deep ponds with fishing rods for prizes which often ended up being fought over by unruly children... it was a wonderful kind of chaos. Djard set about finding a relatively open corner of the main square to set up his blanket and wares - Various potions and trinkets of dubious quality - and set about peddling his wares. Utterly free of concern, he saw not the eyes that peered through boarded windows, nor the gathering of masked individuals behind him.

He was never heard from again. But his wares, strange as they were, could be found in various stores for exorbitant prices.
