The Merchant Prince
Davin’gor Blooddamned
“You think I want to be this way? Unlikable. Unloved. It is the burden I carry for you. For all of you. Why can’t you understand? If I were not strong, if I were not feared, I couldn’t protect you. I couldn’t protect anyone. So hate me, hide from me, whisper against me in the night. But pray. Pray that I do not lose my strength, so you might only learn to despise me, not the world.”
Hyper-aware of the whimsical nature of his ancestor, Davin’gor embraces a harsh and utilitarian rule over his cities on the island south of the mainland. Due to the prime trading locations of his cities, he often acts as the main negotiator for trades across continents. As cut-throat in how he handles trades as he is in how he handles his image, many are scared to get on his bad side, his subjects and trading partners alike. Although this is the image he portrays, he really does want to be liked. Faced daily by trials of leadership, he simply doesn’t believe it to be possible to be liked whilst also being the fierce Merchant Prince his people need. In close circles, he frequently makes awkward jokes hoping to make people laugh, but his off-beat humour often misses the mark, leaving uncomfortable silences in their wake. On the rare occasion that people do laugh, he often feels bashful and gets even more awkward, quickly ruining the fun. His outward facing stoic image is a wall in which he keeps everyone who could put the Camarian Conglomerate at risk out, but much to his chagrin it keeps potential friends out too. Such is the burden of a leader.
